Is it permissible to stipulate the purchase of a house or the giving of money to the wife for the purpose of improving living conditions?

It is permissible for a man to marry a wealthy woman, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, guided towards marrying a woman of religious commitment without prohibiting marriage to women of wealth, lineage, or beauty. It is also permissible for him to stipulate a desired characteristic, such as wealth, from her.

As for the suitor stipulating that the woman give him something from her wealth, there are two scenarios: 1. If the intention is for her to pay him the mahr (dowry): This condition is invalid because the mahr is obligatory upon the man. 2. If he gives her the mahr and stipulates for himself something from her wealth: This condition is void because it contradicts the implications of the marriage contract, which obligates the husband to provide maintenance and guardianship (qawamah). Although the condition is void, the marriage itself is valid according to the majority of jurists. It is permissible for the wife to give her husband from her wealth after marriage, of her own free will and good pleasure, without any prior stipulation.
