Does divorce occur if the wife meets her friend by chance, knowing that the husband told his wife: "By Allah, if you reconcile with your friend, I will divorce you," unintentionally or without intending to?

A Muslim must appreciate the marriage contract and not expose it to dissolution for the most trivial reasons, for that entails a disregard for the limits set by Allah and an injustice to the wife and children. Saying to one's wife, "I will divorce you," is considered a yameen laghw (a thoughtless oath) and is not counted as a yameen (oath) if it was not intended as an oath. Even if it were considered a binding oath (yameen mun'aqid), the divorce does not occur because it is not immediate; rather, you have sworn to effect the divorce later. It is commendable, if the condition for the oath is met, to avoid divorce and expiate for the oath.
