What is the ruling on wearing golden sports medals and others at sports events?

It is not permissible for a man to wear gold medals, hang them, or wear other ornaments, due to the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Indeed, these two are forbidden for the males of my Ummah," and in another narration: "Permissible for their females." The scholar Khalil al-Maliki prohibited a male from using anything adorned with gold or silver.
