Is it permissible to pay a monetary expiation for approximately 29 days of missed fasting, and what is its amount, to whom should it be paid, and when?

The expiation for delaying the making up of missed fasts is to feed one indigent person for each day. The amount is a Mudd (approximately 750 grams) according to the Shafi'i and Maliki schools, and double that (one and a half kilograms) according to the Hanbali school. This expiation is obligatory for whoever knows of the prohibition, and it is permissible to pay it either before or after making up the fasts. As for breaking the fast during high school for exams, it is not an excuse unless there is extreme hardship. The days whose number is not remembered should be made up with what achieves certainty or a strong presumption of clearing one's liability.
