Is it permissible to train young girls, before the age of puberty, in rhythmic gymnastics that is accompanied by music?
It is not permissible to listen to music or to be accompanied by it, except for the duff (tambourine) for women at weddings and on Eid day. A guardian must keep a child away from forbidden things and raise them in obedience to Allah, as Allah the Almighty says: "O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones, over which are [appointed] angels, harsh and severe; they do not disobey Allah in what He commands them but do what they are commanded." Training girls in gymnastics is a reprehensible act (munkar) because it accustoms them to dancing and displaying their charms. The matter becomes worse if the training is conducted by a man or in the presence of men.
