What is the ruling on eating a type of Egyptian cheese that is stored underground for more than a year and is putrid and foul-smelling when eaten?

Stinky cheese is permissible if it does not harm the eater, and its original substance was not forbidden, as Allah Almighty says: "And He makes lawful for them the good things and prohibits for them the impure." A permissible substance does not become forbidden by a change in its smell, as long as it does not cause harm. The proof for this is that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ate barley bread and rancid fat (fat with an altered smell), and the Companions ate rancid fat during the Battle of the Trench. Similarly, it is permissible to eat onions and garlic despite their smell. There is no blame in refraining from eating what one dislikes, just as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, refrained from eating the dabb (mastigure lizard).
