What is the ruling on a man who had anal sex with a woman, and is his punishment the same as that of an adulterer?

The prescribed punishment for fornication (hadd az-zina) must be applied to anyone who has anal intercourse with a foreign woman (a non-mahram). This punishment is one hundred lashes and one year of banishment for the unmarried (virgin), and stoning for the married (muhsan). This is because it is an act of intercourse in a private part that is forbidden by Islamic law. Allah has called it an abomination, just as He called fornication an abomination.
