What is the ruling on the husband's family living in the wife's house without her permission and using her belongings? And is it permissible to visit one's parents and maternal uncles without the permission of a husband who mistreats the wife's family and is strict about her visiting them?

An independent, suitable dwelling is a wife's right. Therefore, a man is not permitted to house any of his relatives with his wife unless she consents and the Islamic legal guidelines are observed.

As for the marital home owned by the husband, it does not become the wife's property due to her right to independent housing. He may house his relatives in it during her travels, provided he does not use any of her private possessions except with her permission.

If the house is owned by the wife, the husband is not permitted to house anyone in it except with her permission, because she has an independent financial standing.

A husband's ill-treatment of his wife's family is not in line with Islamic morals; rather, treating them kindly is part of living together honorably.

Regarding the wife's going out to visit her parents and maternal aunts without the husband's permission, the Hanafis and Malikis permitted it with conditions, while the Hanbalis and Shafi'is forbade it. According to the Malikis and Hanafis, she may go out to visit her parents every Friday and her maharim (unmarriageable kin) every year, even without the husband's permission. For the Shafi'is, she may go out in the husband's absence if he has not forbidden it and if it is not customary otherwise.
