How can one restore their previous life of faith and daily Qur'anic recitation (wird), and get rid of the evil eye, the disease of self-importance, extremism, conceit, and arrogance, especially when surrounded by an unsupportive environment and feeling that prayers are being answered slowly?
A Muslim should refrain from complaining excessively to people about his condition concerning his relationship with his Lord. The cure lies in fearing Allah, obeying His commands, and avoiding what displeases Him. He should humble himself before Allah in supplication, asking Him to bestow upon him guidance and faith, and he should direct his complaints to Allah alone, for He is the sole Guide. If a person finds a change in his heart and his state with Allah, he should turn to repentance and seek forgiveness, for a believer is not deprived of good except due to his sins and shortcomings. A believer thinks ill of himself and fears spiritual ailments of the heart, but this should not lead him to despair and abandon good deeds. Rather, it should motivate him to hold himself accountable, reform himself, and draw closer to Allah. The evil eye is real, but one should not attribute every misfortune to it. Instead, one must fortify oneself with remembrances (dhikr), purify the heart, and rely on Allah. Many scholars have disliked spending the entire night in prayer (Qiyam al-Layl). Haste in supplication is prohibited and can be a reason for the prayer not being answered. A Muslim should have a good opinion of his Lord when making supplication.
