The : "I am the city of knowledge and Ali is its gate" has been judged by hadith imams as weak or fabricated, among them Al-Bukhari, Ibn Ma'in, Ibn Taymiyyah, and Al-Albani. It is not sound in its chain of narration (sanad) or its text (matn). This does not diminish the status of Ali ibn Abi Talib. As for Aisha's stance in the Battle of the Camel, previous fatwas have explained her excuse, her praise for Ali, and his praise for her.
