Is someone who dies on a commercial sea voyage considered a martyr?

Yes, a drowned person is considered a martyr if they were not disobedient by embarking on the sea. It has been authentically narrated from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, that "the drowned person is a martyr." Embarking on the sea for trade is permissible if safety is predominantly expected. However, if this is not the case, then one should not embark, and whoever does so has assisted in their own demise and is not considered a martyr.
