A mother is like a father in the obligation of justice between children regarding gifts. It is not permissible for her to favor some of them with a gift unless there is a legitimate reason, such as need or poverty. If she favors one of them for a reason that necessitates such favoritism, there is no harm. However, if the preference is without a legitimate reason, there is a difference of opinion regarding the validity of her action.
