What is the ruling on touching a dog's saliva, and does it necessitate washing the entire body or only the point of contact, and how many times must one wash, and is soap sufficient, and how are clothes purified if dog saliva gets on them?

The area touched by the impurity of dog saliva must be washed seven times, the first of which is with earth, by analogy with a dog licking from a vessel. Scholars differed on whether soap can substitute for earth, and the preponderant view is that it is sufficient if it achieves the intended purpose. Purifying clothes from dog saliva is like purifying a vessel. Some scholars held that washing the vessel is an act of worship (ta'abbudi) that cannot be analogized to other things; therefore, clothes and the body are not washed from dog saliva.
