The answer

The sick and the traveler are permitted to break their fast in , based on the Almighty's saying: (And whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days). However, their fast is valid if they choose to fast, due to the of Hamza bin Amr Al-Aslami, who asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "Should I fast while traveling?" He replied: "If you wish, then fast, and if you wish, then break your fast." If the traveler or the sick person fears for themselves from fasting, then breaking the fast becomes obligatory, based on Jabir's hadith: "It is not righteousness to fast during travel." And breaking the fast is absolutely better for the traveler, due to the hadith of Hamza bin Amr Al-Aslami: "It is a concession from Allah Almighty, so whoever takes it, it is good, and whoever wishes to fast, there is no blame upon him." As for the verse in Al-Baqarah, its estimation is "then he broke his fast," meaning, whoever broke his fast, then an equal number of other days.
