Is there a special merit or virtue in Islamic law for children to be present at the death of one of their parents?

There is no evidence in Islamic law of any special merit for a child being present at the death of one of their parents. However, a child should attend to their parents during their illness and needs as an act of piety towards them. If the child is present at the time of death, it is expected that they will strive to prompt the dying parent to say the Shahada, pray for them, and expedite their preparation and burial, as the child is more compassionate and eager to convey good to their parents.
