Is chicken considered halal if it is slaughtered mechanically after being lightly stunned, where the machine is operated with a single recitation of "Bismillah" and "Allahu Akbar" by the operator, while five men repeatedly recite "Bismillah" and "Allahu Akbar" without directly performing the slaughter?

Stunning an animal with electricity before slaughter, if it leads to its death, makes its meat unlawful to eat. However, if it does not kill the animal but merely renders it unconscious, and then it is immediately slaughtered according to Islamic law, its meat is lawful. The Islamic Fiqh Academy has ruled against stunning poultry with electric shock because experience has shown that a significant percentage of them die as a result.

As for mentioning Allah's name (Tasmiyah) at the time of slaughter, it is a condition for the permissibility of the slaughtered animal's meat. Originally, Tasmiyah should be for each specific animal. However, with the use of modern machinery that slaughters a large number of chickens in a short time, a single Tasmiyah from the person operating the machine when it is started with the intention of slaughter is sufficient, provided that the operator is a Muslim or a person of the Book. The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta' and the Islamic Fiqh Academy have issued fatwas to this effect. Tasmiyah uttered by individuals standing next to the machine without operating it holds no value.

Associations overseeing slaughter should avoid electric stunning unless it is confirmed that it does not cause the death of chickens. The Tasmiyah of the machine operator when starting it is sufficient, and it should be repeated upon restarting after a pause. The conditions of Islamic slaughter must be observed precisely, and alternatives such as manual slaughter should be sought to avoid the problems associated with stunning and Tasmiyah.
