Is it permissible to kiss the foot of a scholar or a pious man, following the example of the Companions with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and with each other, as mentioned in "Al-Adab Al-Mufrad"?

Kissing the foot of a scholar is permissible under certain conditions, among them that it is done as an act of devotion to Allah and out of reverence for knowledge, and that it is not done habitually or as a means of seeking blessings. It has not been authentically established in sound hadiths that the Companions kissed the foot of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the hadiths reported concerning this are weak. Similarly, what has been narrated from Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding kissing the foot of Al-Abbas is weak and inconsistent.
