Should a man be washed and prayed over if he died after his family beat him to death because he was drunk, uttered obscenities, and undressed himself in front of them?

Drinking alcohol, hitting one's mother, and cursing are major sins. Exposing one's awrah (intimate parts) to anyone other than one's wife or bondswoman is forbidden. Those responsible for him should have advised him gently or sternly. If he did not desist, his case should have been brought before a judge to administer the hadd punishment for alcohol consumption and to discipline him for his transgression. They are not permitted to kill him because he did not commit an act that necessitates execution, and even if he had, the matter rests with the ruler. They are mistaken in killing him and are liable for qisas (retribution) or diyah (blood money). As for washing his body, shrouding him, and offering the funeral prayer for him, these are obligatory because he is a Muslim.
