Is it permissible for one observing I'tikaf to leave the mosque for home to eat, or must food be brought to him in the mosque?

The person in i'tikaf should not leave his place of i'tikaf except for what is absolutely necessary, such as relieving himself of urine and feces, and bringing food and drink if he cannot find someone to bring them for him. It is recommended for him to delegate someone to bring him food and drink so that he can devote himself fully to his i'tikaf. If he leaves for a necessity, he should not prolong his stay at home, because necessity is determined by its extent, and he should return immediately to his place of i'tikaf.
