Is the meaning of the Hadith: "Whoever recites ten verses will not be recorded among the negligent; whoever recites one hundred verses will be recorded among the devout; and whoever recites one thousand verses will be recorded among the Muqanterein," limited to prayer only, or does it also include recitation?

Al-Mubarakpuri mentioned in his commentary on Sharh al-Mishkat that the aforementioned standing (qiyam) was interpreted as prayer, and also as recitation without prayer. He favored the interpretation of it being recitation during night prayer, based on the hadith narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah and Al-Hakim: "Whoever prays at night with a hundred verses..."
