What is meant by "recitation" in the hadith: "If he recites his wird between sunrise and the Dhuhr prayer, Allah will record for him his qiyam"? Is it the recitation of the Quran or prayer?

The Hadith referred to is that which Muslim and the compilers of the Sunan reported from Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever misses his hizb (portion) or part of it, and then recites it between the Fajr prayer and the Dhuhr prayer, it will be recorded for him as if he had recited it during the night." This Hadith indicates the desirability of maintaining one's regular awrad (devotions) and making them up if they are missed. It is possible that the hizb refers to recitation within the prayer or outside of it. Many scholars have interpreted this Hadith as referring to making up the night prayer (Qiyam al-Layl), and they have cited as evidence what Muslim reported from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: "If sleep or pain prevented him from Qiyam al-Layl, he would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day." The imams have recommended that a person should have a specific number of rak'ahs that he performs during the night and does not abandon; if he sleeps through them, he should pray them during the day instead. The hizb is the portion of the Quran recited in prayer.
