Is it obligatory to seek treatment for an infectious disease to protect others? And is taking the Coronavirus vaccine recommended? The vaccine is important for neutralizing the danger of the virus and its devastating symptoms, but research on it is still limited and short-term. The virus, until now, is more dangerous than the vaccine because it is mysterious, mutates frequently, and has no cure. Is it permissible to take the vaccine for travel if the state requires it, especially since some vaccines are authenticated by major medical bodies such as the World Health Organization?

All praise is due to Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and companions. To proceed:

Medical treatment is permissible in Islam. Most scholars are of the opinion that it is not obligatory, except that the Islamic Fiqh Council has ruled it obligatory if abandoning it leads to the destruction of life or limbs, or the transmission of harm to others, such as contagious diseases.

It is not permissible to enter upon a patient with a contagious disease, just as it is not permissible for the patient to mix with healthy individuals. Regarding the coronavirus disease, internationally approved vaccines should be taken, especially after their effectiveness in reducing infections and deaths has been proven.
