This is based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "Indeed, among the good deeds and merits that will reach a believer after his death are: knowledge he learned and spread..." If the reward for this is intended for other Muslims, whether living or deceased, it will reach them. It is recommended to learn knowledge, teach it, spread it, and make it accessible to people through every possible means.
