What is the ruling regarding a husband working during the day to clean a place designated for dancing and drinking alcohol? And what is the ruling on the money earned from it if the work is impermissible?

It is forbidden for a Muslim to work as a servant for a disbeliever, as this entails humiliation for the Muslim and glorification for the disbeliever, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: (And never will Allah grant to the disbelievers a way [to prevail] over the believers).

If a Muslim leases himself to a disbeliever for a specific job, if the work is permissible, such as sewing a garment, it is permissible by agreement. If it is forbidden, such as carrying wine, it is not permissible by agreement.

As for working in a place that disbelievers use for dancing and drinking alcohol, it is akin to forbidden work, because it is aiding in sin and transgression. Therefore, your husband must leave this job and seek another permissible one, according to the Almighty's saying: (And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression).

Regarding the money earned from this work, what has been spent is left to Allah's judgment, and what remains must be disposed of by spending it on the general welfare of Muslims. He should trust that provision is in the hands of Allah, and whoever abandons something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better, in accordance with the Almighty's saying: (And whoever fears Allah – He will make for him a way out And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him).
