Financial support is obligatory for the husband towards his wife, provided she is not defiant. However, he is not obligated to financially support her family, although he should treat them kindly. The wife, on the other hand, must honor and be kind to her parents, and financially support them if they are in need and she possesses wealth. A woman's work is permissible with her husband's permission, provided it is not forbidden, and her money is her own; the husband has no right to seize it.
