What is the ruling on playing repetitive dhikr audio for long hours (such as "Salat upon the Prophet," "Istighfar," or "Tasbeeh") with the intention of using it to aid in dhikr when the mind wanders or one is preoccupied?

There is no harm in playing an audio clip containing prayers upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), or glorification (tasbih) and seeking forgiveness (istighfar), with the intention of listening to it and being reminded by it for long hours, as long as there is no idle chatter or delving into speech in the place that would imply disrespect, or prevent listening to it and benefiting from it. It is preferable not to play it in places of sin. Sheikh Al-Fawzan permitted listening to the Holy Quran from the radio or a recorder while being occupied, provided one listens attentively to the best of their ability, and the matter of dhikr (remembrance) and supplications is easier and broader than that of the Holy Quran.
