What is the ruling on lying to avoid encouraging the acquisition of clothes or items that are not compliant with Sharia or involve extravagance, for fear of bearing sin?

Originally, lying is not permissible except in allusions. However, scholars have permitted lying if it brings about a religiously recognized benefit or repels harm, provided that no harm is befalling others. They cited the hadith of Umm Kulthum bint 'Uqbah, which permits lying in three situations: war, reconciling people, and a man speaking to his wife or a woman to her husband. Thorough scholars have permitted lying in anything that involves benefit without harming others. Therefore, if the matters you are asked to give an opinion on involve religious transgressions, there is no blame upon you for responding that they are not good.
