Is the intent of the hadith, "He feeds her when he eats, and clothes her when he clothes himself," that if a husband buys himself a garment for a certain amount, he must give his wife the same amount or buy her a garment of the same value?

The wife's right upon her husband is that he should feed her and clothe her, not strike her face, not revile her, and not abandon her except within the house. Financial support (nafaqa) is obligatory to the extent of sufficiency in food, drink, and clothing. The meaning of "feed her when you eat" is an encouragement to spend on her as a man spends on himself. If the husband does not spend on his wife, the judge may annul the marriage at her request.
