Is the meaning of the verse "for the male, what is equal to the share of two females" restricted to inheritance only, or does it include all matters of life, such as a father giving his male children double what he gives to his female children, even if the females are older?

A father's gifts to his children during his lifetime fall into two categories:

First: Obligatory maintenance (nafaqah wajibah), which is determined by the need of each child. Thus, one child may receive more than another to meet their needs.

Second: A gift (hibah) or beneficence (ihsan) that is not tied to a need. In this, the Sharia has commanded justice among the children. Scholars have differed on how this justice is to be achieved. Some hold that there should be equality between male and female, while others are of the opinion that the male should receive a share equal to that of two females. This latter view is held by Muhammad ibn al-Hasan, Ahmad, Ishaq, and some Shafi'is and Malikis.
