Does refraining from sin out of fear of God's punishment differ from refraining from it out of a desire for glory?

The conclusion is that whoever abandons sin out of fear and shyness towards Allah will be rewarded. As for one who abandons it out of shyness towards people and to preserve his status among them, he is below the first, but he does not sin for that. Indeed, he may even be rewarded if he has a legitimate intention, such as calling people to Allah. The most perfect is to abandon sin out of shyness and fear of Allah, and there is no harm in abandoning it to achieve dignity for oneself, provided there is no intention of showing off.
