What happens to a wife who suffers from recurrent headaches and dizziness, in addition to fear, shortness of breath, nervousness, and nightmares, despite consulting doctors and adhering to the Quran and prayer? And is the statement of the "woman knowledgeable of God" that she needs a "Sulha" (slaughtering a sheep in the home in her presence) correct? And what is the appropriate treatment for her condition?

Perhaps what afflicted the wife is sorcery (sihr), envy (hasad), or demonic possession (mass). It is not permissible to treat sorcery by sacrificing to devils; this is polytheism (shirk). Nor is it permissible to describe someone who deals with sacrificing to devils as being knowledgeable of God. Some people try to appease the jinn that cause a person to be afflicted by sacrificing to them, and this is a form of polytheism that God and His Messenger have forbidden. It is not permissible to seek treatment through this, by the consensus of scholars. The questioner must beware of sacrificing or dealing with this woman. Instead, he should resort to God through ruqyah (Islamic exorcism) and the established remembrances (adhkar), and seek assistance from a righteous reciter (raqi) who performs ruqyah properly according to the Qur'an and Sunnah, and who is strong in faith in God, relying upon Him.
