The prescribed length for sleeves is that they should not exceed the wrist. This is a recommended practice, not obligatory. Exceeding this length is not forbidden unless it involves pride, arrogance, or imitation of disbelievers. If there is a need for the extra length or if it is the custom of the people, then there is no harm. Sheikh Ibn Baz was asked about this and he replied that he did not know of any prohibition for a sleeve exceeding the wrist, but that the Sunnah and the preferred approach is for it to reach the wrist. It has been reported by Asma bint Yazid and Anas that the sleeve of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, reached the wrist, and this is also what Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned. In summary: the length of sleeves up to the wrist is permissible and has a basis in the Sunnah. Anything beyond that is not forbidden unless it lacks a need or is not part of customary attire, even if it is contrary to what is preferred.
