What is the ruling on a driver swearing to highway robbers that he has no more money, while some remains undiscovered?

Swearing a false oath is a grave sin, and bringing the Qur'an into it makes the matter worse. The majority of jurists hold that there is no expiation for one who intentionally swears a false oath, because their sin is too great to be expiated by an oath's expiation. The obligation is to repent to Allah. As for swearing a false oath to ward off harm from highway robbers, it is permissible if the harm cannot be repelled except by lying. Lying becomes permissible if the intention is permissible, obligatory if the intention is obligatory, and using equivocation (tawriyah) is recommended.
