Is one who does not feel the affection of his mother, from whom his father divorced when he was two years old, and with whom he does not communicate much, sinful?

The mother's right is greater than anyone else's, and she is the foremost person deserving of dutifulness and good companionship. This is indicated by noble prophetic hadiths, such as the hadith of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), which places the mother first three times before the father. There is also a consensus that the mother is given precedence over the father in dutifulness.

The fact that a son grew up away from his mother does not permit him to neglect her rights concerning connection and kindness. Her right is great, and Allah commanded it directly after His own right, as stated in the Holy Quran in His (the Almighty's) saying: "And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, do good." and "Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents, do good."

Therefore, exerting effort to please the mother, maintain ties with her, and show dutifulness to her is one of the most important reasons for entering Paradise. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stay with her, for Paradise is under her feet."

So, seek Allah's forgiveness for any previous shortcomings, ask your mother for forgiveness, and embark on showing her dutifulness and kindness, for in that lies great good in this world and the Hereafter.
