What is the ruling on joining a mixed university family in the field of student services, and the ruling on mixed meetings held to discuss topics and reach solutions?
Mixing between men and women is not absolutely forbidden. Rather, it becomes forbidden if there is a شرعي (Shar'i) concern, such as open display of adornment (تبرج), speaking in a soft and alluring manner (الخضوع بالقول), private seclusion (الخلوة), looking with lust (النظر بشهوة), or if it involves a woman's immodest behavior (تبذل) or play and amusement (عبث ولهو). Accordingly, participating in mixed families or attending mixed gatherings is not ruled as forbidden unless there are شرعي (Shar'i) concerns. Nevertheless, it is advised to avoid such meetings as a precautionary measure (سدًا لذريعة الفتنة) to prevent temptation and to close the doors to evil.
