What is the ruling on teaching the English language to Muslim children?

Learning English and other foreign languages is permissible for the acquisition of a legitimate benefit, and it may be a collective obligation (fard kifaya) if there is a need for it for the welfare of Muslims. The Prophet, peace be upon him, and the Companions did not learn any language other than Arabic except out of necessity, as happened with Zayd ibn Thabit, who learned Syriac by the command of the Prophet, peace be upon him, due to the arrival of letters in that language. A Muslim prefers not to speak in other than Arabic except out of necessity, such as the addressee not understanding Arabic, or naming something by its non-Arabic name, because Arabic is the best of languages and the Quran was revealed in it.
