What is the ruling on a student of knowledge learning the English language for the purpose of using it in da'wah to Allah?

The Sheikh held that learning English is a means, and it becomes base if used for base objectives. The only thing to avoid is adopting it as a substitute for the Arabic language, because replacing Arabic, the language of the Qur'an, with this language is forbidden. The Salaf forbade the unintelligible speech of non-Arabs. As for using it as a means for da'wah (inviting to Islam), it is sometimes obligatory. He cited a story that happened to him at the airport mosque in Jeddah, where he needed the Hausa language to explain the invalidity of the Tijaniyya doctrine. He concluded that knowing the language of the addressed person is important in conveying information, citing Allah Almighty's saying: (And We did not send any messenger except with the language of his people to make [the message] clear for them) [Ibrahim/4].
