How can one escape the cycle of unrequited love?

Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah advised those afflicted by the poisoned arrow of love with three matters:

1. Marriage or taking a concubine, based on the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: "If one of you looks at the beauty of a woman, let him go to his wife, for she has the like of what she has."

2. Persevering in the five daily prayers, supplication, and humble entreaty at the time of dawn with a present heart, and frequently repeating the supplication: "O Turner of hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion. O Disposer of hearts, turn my heart towards Your obedience and the obedience of Your Messenger."

3. Staying away from the beloved's dwelling and avoiding meeting those who associate with him, so as not to hear any news of him or see him, for distance weakens the effect in the heart.
