Is Allah Almighty's saying, "Like one over whom the devils have made to stumble" and His saying, "whom Satan has confounded by his touch" a metaphorical expression, and that it occurs in the Quran according to common parlance, not according to reality?

The first verse is similar to the second in interpretation, where one who has been freed from polytheism and then returns to it is likened to someone whom devils have led astray after he was on the straight path. This is not based on Arab claims. The meaning is that we turn on our heels after Allah has guided us to guidance, falling into misguidance. This is a state that no person of sound mind would approve of, and its possessor is like one whom devils have captivated on earth, leading him astray from his path. His condition is likened to that of one who falls from a height into a dark abyss, being in extreme disarray and blindness concerning salvation.
