What is the ruling on a son abandoning his mother who led him into sin, and must he return to her if she repents, and what should he do if he cannot forgive her despite her having no one but him?

A person must associate with their parents with kindness, even if they are polytheists or command polytheism, for obedience to them in disobedience to Allah is not permissible. And he who abandons his mother has erred, for her right to righteousness and kindness is not negated by any sins she may commit. Part of honoring her is to advise her and supplicate for her. The mother's abandonment of her son in his childhood does not justify him abandoning her, for her right is great, and disobeying Allah's command regarding honoring parents carries a severe punishment.
