Is it obligatory for a woman who wishes to wear the niqab to cover her eyes completely, and should she pay attention to thoughts that might discourage her from wearing it?

We do not know of any scholar who has issued a fatwa prohibiting the wearing of the niqab if the eye-opening is limited to what the woman needs to see. Some contemporary scholars have prohibited it due to their observation of women's leniency and the widening of the eye-opening, which reveals parts of the cheeks and nose. However, if the opening is limited to the eyes, the niqab is permissible, and there is no disagreement regarding its legality. We advise the questioner to hasten to cover her face when going out, to pay no attention to people's opinions, and to seek Allah's help in covering her face out of obedience to Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him).
