Will God forgive my husband for the injustice and emotional suspension he inflicted upon me after divorcing me and marrying another, simply because he treats his second wife well?
Firstly: A woman's request for divorce is permissible for a reason such as ill-treatment, disliked without need, and may be forbidden according to some scholars. Secondly: Neglecting the wife, meaning leaving her without rights, is forbidden unless she is disobedient, in which case her maintenance is not obligatory, or if she refuses sexual intercourse, in which case she is sinful. Thirdly: A husband's good treatment of his second wife does not expiate his injustice towards the first. Rather, it requires repentance, restitution of material injustices, and seeking absolution for emotional injustices. His good treatment of others does not erase injustice; rather, seeking absolution from the one he wronged and treating them well does.
