Maintaining kinship ties is obligatory, and severing them is unequivocally forbidden, even if the relative is committing sins. However, one must enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, and this is one of the best forms of maintaining kinship. It is permissible to shun a dissolute relative if doing so serves the purpose of deterring him, provided he is informed of the reason for the shunning. It is not permissible to accompany women who display their adornments when they go out, except if there is a necessity to avert a greater harm.
