What is the ruling on doubting one's sincerity (riya') when weeping out of devotion during Tarawih prayer?
Reflecting on the Qur’an, and having humility and weeping when reciting or hearing it, and fearing God upon mention of His threats, are characteristics of sincere believers. This is because these acts indicate an awareness of God’s greatness and His constant watchfulness, and that is a great blessing. Rejoicing in it is commendable. The whispers of Satan that this is showing off are part of his cunning to cut off the path of good. Therefore, one should not pay attention to these whispers.
