Is it permissible to travel to polytheists to maintain kinship ties if they are relatives or live with them?

Upholding kinship ties is an obligation, and Allah has warned against severing them. Allah Almighty says: "And fear Allah, through Whom you ask one another, and [do not cut off the relations of] the wombs." (An-Nisa: 1). And He says: "So, would you perhaps, if you turned away, cause corruption in the land and sever your ties of kinship? Those are the ones whom Allah has cursed, so He made them deaf and blinded their vision." (Muhammad: 22-23). Severe warnings have been issued for a Muslim who severs kinship ties. As for a polytheist relative, upholding ties with them is not obligatory, but it is permissible. Indeed, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, permitted Asma bint Abi Bakr to uphold ties with her polytheist mother. Therefore, traveling to uphold kinship ties is permissible if the traveler is safe, finds suitable means and financial ability without hardship, and if the country is not widespread with evil deeds which one fears falling into.
