What is the ruling on the fasting and prayers of one who used to masturbate before and after marriage, being ignorant of the necessity of ghusl (ritual bath) from it? Is she required to make up approximately 12 years of fasting and prayers?

Masturbation during the daytime in Ramadan invalidates the fast, according to the majority of scholars, if ejaculation occurs, and ghusl (ritual bath) becomes obligatory because of it. The fatwas of Shaykhs Ibn Baz and Ibn Uthaymeen affirm this, stating that one must make up the day (qada') and repent, but no expiation (kaffarah) is required. However, if no semen is ejaculated, the fast is not invalidated. If the fasting person masturbated out of ignorance that it invalidates the fast, their fast is valid according to some scholars, such as Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah and Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen, and this is the relied-upon opinion for fatwa. As for her prayers performed while in a state of janabah (ritual impurity) due to ejaculation, they are not valid according to the majority and must be repeated.
