Which of the two rewards is greater in the sight of Allah: the servant's patience in tribulation or his gratitude for blessings, and which of the two actions requires greater effort?

This issue is a branch of the question concerning the preference between patience (sabr) and gratitude (shukr), and between the grateful rich person and the patient poor person. The reality is that the best of them is the one who is most devout to Allah Almighty. If they are equal in piety, then they are equal in merit. Thus, preference in the sight of Allah is based on piety, not on wealth or poverty, nor on well-being or affliction.
