Abu al- is Ali ibn Ibrahim al-Qattan. Some scholars, including Ibn Makula and Al-Dhahabi, referred to him by this name. Al-Qattan is a title given to someone who works in selling cotton. A father and son might be given this title if they practiced the same profession. So, it is possible that Abu al-Hasan and his father worked in the same profession.
