What is the ruling on schools requesting money from students for the endowment of school expansion, and is it permissible to compel them to make the endowment in exchange for admission?

It is permissible for the school to encourage students to give charity without compulsion. However, obliging them to give charity or making it a condition for admission is taking money unlawfully. There is a concern that the motivation might be out of shyness or fear, which is forbidden by Islamic law, for "the property of a person is not lawful unless it is given with his willing consent."
