The jurists differed regarding the permissible weight for a man's ring:

Hanafis: The ring should not exceed one mithqal. Ibn Abidin preferred that it should not even reach one mithqal, citing the hadith: "Take it from silver, and do not make it a full mithqal." Malikis: It is permissible if its weight is two legal dirhams or less, and forbidden if it exceeds that. Shafi'is: They did not specify a weight, relying instead on custom. It is preferred that it be less than a mithqal due to the hadith: "Take it from silver, and do not make it a full mithqal." Hanbalis: There is no harm in making it one mithqal or more, as long as it does not deviate from custom, because the default is prohibition, and what is mentioned regarding the limit of a mithqal is weak.
